Two Ingredient Lip Gloss

This is a perfect rainy day craft for tweens who love something with a little extra sparkle.  Teaching kids how to make their own lip gloss lets allows you know exactly what ingredients are being used and lets them get super creative!

Add 1 cup of petroleum jelly into a microwave safe bowl

We put our bowl in the microwave for between 3-4 minutes, making sure to stir it every 30 seconds.  Help younger children with this step, as the bowl gets quite warm.  We used oven mitts to remove it from the microwave.

Separate the melted jelly into two different cups before adding your drink crystals. Skip this step and mix the crystals directly into the bowl if you're only doing one flavor.

We chose Raspberry and Watermelon!

Pour your crystals into the cups.  We used 4 of these single serve packets per cup - feel free to add as much as you want until you like the color.

We found some sugar crystals (the kind used to decorate cakes and cupcakes) and added them to our watermelon mixture for some extra sweetness and exfoliation.  This step is optional, but does make a really pretty finished product.

Fill containers with lip gloss.  We found these ones at our local dollar store, but use what you have around the house - we've seen really cute ones made with old mint containers.

Decorate!  Again, this step is totally optional but it does add some extra pizazz.  We used leftover jewels from some of our Sticky Mosaics kits, but you can use stickers, tape, or even markers!

Leave them to sit for about 2 hours so that they harden up (you can even throw them in the freezer for a while).  Once completed, you'll have your very own homemade lip gloss.

The recipe made about a dozen containers, which would make them great to use as party favors or a sleepover craft!
